PS/SJ Opens Judiciary Health Awareness Campaign

KAMPALA: The Judiciary on Thursday (September 26, 2019) held a successful awareness campaign with an aim of improving general health practices of its officers.
Held under the theme, "Raising Awareness and Promoting Health Best Practices", the campaign included voluntary screening and testing of different ailments as well as providing advice on family planning.
The Judiciary Permanent Secretary / Secretary to Judiciary, Mr Pius Bigirimana, at the Kampala High Court Gardens, officially launched the one-day campaign.
The PS/SJ emphasized the need for Judiciary officers to lead health lives. "I am passionate about health matters that is why I have introduced a health run...it will help you to lead a health life."
He thanked the medical personnel for making time to share their expertise with Judiciary staff. He urged the staff to desist from heavy drinking and chain smoking. Adding, "try to avoid eating after 8:00 PM and stay away from fatty foods s as much as possible".
Mr Bigirimana said regular exercises and a balanced diet would help all staff to age gracefully.
Leading by example, the PS/SJ took some tests including blood pressure that showed normal. He attributed this to regular exercises.
Senior medical officers facilitated the first phase of the campaign, which targeted officers from the High Court headquarters; Civil, Land and Executions &Bailiffs Divisions as well as Buganda Road and City hall courts. These included Dr. Stephen Watiti Stephen who gave an overview of HIV/AIDS prevalence, Dr.John Omagino who shared on non-communicable diseases while Dr. David Kabagambe shared about positive living with Hepatitis B.
There was also a team of medical personnel from the Uganda Heart Institute, who handled screenings and counselling sessions throughout the day.
There are plans to roll-out these campaigns to different courts in the country.
